Generative Lighting installation
Divine Intimacies is an immersive audiovisual performance inspired by the I Ching (The Book of Changes), one of the foundational texts of Chinese philosophy. The project explores how ancient systems of thought can be translated into contemporary sound, light, and live performance.
At the core of the work is the generation of I Ching hexagrams in real time. Formed through combinations of Yin and Yang, these hexagrams become a framework for structured improvisation, guiding the musicians through an unfolding series of decisions and interactions. Each performance follows a unique trajectory, reflecting the I Ching's understanding of change as a continuous and dynamic process.
The musical programme brought together works by Kaija Saariaho, Isang Yun, and Kazuo Fukushima alongside medieval chant by Hildegard von Bingen, ancient Chinese ritual music, and newly arranged historical repertoire. Although originating from different cultures and periods, these works share a sensitivity to resonance, stillness, transformation, and humanity's relationship with the natural world.
For this production, I designed and developed a responsive LED installation and interactive control system that surrounded the performers and transformed the stage into a living visual environment. Working in collaboration with visual artist Meng Chang, we created a generative visual ecosystem in which light, projection, and music continuously responded to one another.
Presented within the historic architecture of LSO St Luke's, London on 19 May 2026, Divine Intimacies transformed the venue into an immersive field of light, sound, and movement, inviting audiences to experience the principles of change and interconnectedness as a living envrionment.

Divine Intimacies是一场受《易经》启发的沉浸式视听演出。《易经》作为中国哲学最重要的经典之一，其关于变化、关系与生成的思想构成了本项目的核心。作品尝试将这一古老的思想体系转译为当代的声音、光线与现场表演语言，探索传统哲学在当代语境中的全新表达方式。
演出的核心机制建立在实时生成的《易经》卦象之上。由阴阳组合形成的卦象成为音乐家即兴演奏的结构框架，引导他们在演出过程中不断做出回应与选择。随着卦象的变化，音乐的发展方向也随之改变，使每一场演出都拥有独一无二的轨迹，体现《易经》对于“变”的理解——变化并非偶然事件，而是持续发生的动态过程。
音乐部分汇集了作曲家Kaija Saariaho、Isang Yun和Kazuo Fukushima的作品，同时融入了中世纪神秘主义者Hildegard von Bingen的圣咏、中国古代祭祀音乐以及重新编配的东西方音乐作品。尽管这些音乐来自不同的时代与文化背景，却共同关注静默中的变化以及人与自然之间的关系。
在本次创作中，我负责设计与开发LED 灯光装置及生成式视觉互动系统，通过环绕式的灯光结构将舞台转化为一个不断变化的视觉场域。与视觉艺术家孟畅合作，我们共同构建了一套生成式视觉生态系统，使灯光、投影与现场音乐在演出过程中持续相互影响、实时回应，形成一个充满生命力的感知环境。
2026年5月19日，Divine Intimacies于伦敦 LSO St Luke's 呈现。作品利用场地独特的历史建筑空间，将其转化为由光、声音与运动构成的沉浸式环境，邀请观众亲身感受“变化”与“相互连接”如何作为一种可被体验的现实而存在。
