Site-specific kinetic Installation


 



Contact Field is a site-specific kinetic installation for the forests of Houghton by Nicole Gordon and Ke Peng, with sound design by Kaiyumi.

Activated by wind, light and reflection, the installation reveals the invisible dynamics of the forest, transforming natural forces into a shifting field of visual contact. At its centre, a three-metre ring of rotating panels hangs above the forest floor. Reflective by day, folding the surrounding trees and sky back into itself; optical by night, catching and redirecting a red laser through the structure.

As the panels turn, light breaks apart into a field that's never fixed, never repeating. The forest becomes a living optical instrument: a place to gather, lose orientation and be briefly held inside its transmission.
