& Breathscend

As part of The 4th Culture & Arts Festival “CATS” (Culture Arts Technology & Science), I contributed as an artist to a collaborative project with  Shenzhen Institute for Advanced Polymer Materials, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen School of Medicine, and The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen Futian Biomedical Innovation Research and Development Center.

Our work centered on the theme “Membrane”, delving into the microstructures of materials and exploring the concept of membranes—a fundamental element in both biological systems and polymer materials. This theme served as a bridge to merge science, technology, and art. This resulted in the creation of two works: Bodying and Breathscend.


Bodying invites audiences to connect with their internal rhythms. Participants can lie on a large inflatable installation shaped like a cell and use a stethoscope to collect their heartbeat and breathing sounds. These sounds are amplified and played through a multi-channel audio system, immersing viewers in the resonance of their own bodies. The installation emphasizes the dynamic interaction between the interior and exterior of the body. By penetrating the “membrane” interface through sound, it dissolves static bodily boundaries, provoking reflection on the concept of dynamic equilibrium.


Breathscend transforms the exhibition space into a visceral journey. Suspended balloons and semi-transparent fabrics evoke the multi-layered textures of membranes, while synchronized breath-like sounds and light create an immersive, atmospheric environment. This interplay mimics the sensation of being enclosed within a living, breathing organism, offering a tactile experience of continuous motion and permeability.

在香港中文大学(深圳)第四届文艺季CATS文化·艺术·科技:融合创新的主题框架下,我作为新媒体艺术家,与深圳先进高分子材料研究院及香港中文大学(深圳)医学院、香港中文大学(深圳)福田生物医药创新研发中心展开了合作。 本次研究项目以“膜”为主题,从物质的微观结构切入,将“膜”这一既存在于生物学领域又是高分子材料核心结构的概念作为切入点,探索科学技术与艺术的深度融合 ,并创作了两件作品:《声体Bodying》 和 《息间Breathscend》。


声体 Bodying 呈现了观众与自身内部声音的交互:观众可以躺在一个细胞形态的大型充气装置上,通过听诊器收集自己的心跳和呼吸声。这些声音被放大后通过充气装置上的多声道系统播放, 观者将沉浸在自己身体声音的回响中。 该装置放大了身体内外的动态关系,通过“膜”这一界面的声音渗透,模糊了身体的静态边界,激发人们对动态平衡的思考。

息间 Breathscend 以悬浮于空中的气球和半透明布料构建出一个多层次的空间通道,模拟出“膜”的多重质感。呼吸般的声音与光线在空间中交错流动,营造出一种如同置身体内的沉浸感,观者仿佛被包裹于一个不断呼吸与渗透的有机环境中,感受生命的律动与平衡。
